Gum Problems

Red, swollen or receding, tender gums are some of the signs of gum disease. Early warning signs may include bleeding gums after brushing of flossing. Bleeding is never normal. Bad breath, loose teeth, puss between teeth and gums, visible tooth roots, changes in your bite alignment or fit of dentures or bridges may also signal gum disease.

Gum disease occurs when you have germs that are working to destroy the gums and bone around the teeth and it all starts with plaque. Diabetes can weaken your mouth’s ability to fight germs. High sugar levels make gum disease worse. Diabetes may cause damage to the blood vessels supplying your gums. Infections from gum diseases cause blood sugar levels to go up and make diabetes harder to control. Gum disease is often painless, you may not know you have a problem until there is serious damage.
