Slow Healing Wounds

Cuts, scrapes and bruises are slow to heal. As a result of untreated high glucose levels wounds may stay open and scabs may be slow to form and that may lead to bacterial and fungal infections. This occurs because an elevated blood sugar stiffens the arteries and causes narrowing of the blood vessels. This leads to decreased blood flow and oxygen to a wound. Without sufficient nutrients and oxygen a wound heals slowly. Don’t wait for an infection, seek medical care when cuts and abrasions are very slow to heal.
