Uterine Fibroids

Women who have been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome also have another medical condition to worry about: uterine fibroids. Such growths in the uterus are benign tumors that are usually asymptomatic. Anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of women up to the age of 50 may develop uterine fibroids.

However, if you suddenly start getting heavier periods or feel enlargement around the lower abdomen, you should visit your doctor. Uterine fibroids are often detected with CT or MRI scans. Treatment depends upon the severity of the growths. Some cases can be remedied with hot water bottles and some pain medication. More dire scenarios may result in surgery.
