9. Changes in Mood and Personality
Changes in behavior, mood, and personality are incredibly common with Alzheimer’s Disease sufferers. These changes tend to be dramatic and sudden for most individuals, which is why this is often one of the most easy-to-notice symptoms of this disease. If you’ve observed any of the following changes in your loved one, they should be considered red flags.
– Insensitive to Other People
– Paranoid
– Delusional
– Withdrawn in Social Situations
– Avoids Social Situations
– Indecisive
– Anger
– Aggressive
– Loss of Apathy
– Irritable
– Anxious
As you identify these behaviors and sudden mood changes, it’s important to write them down so they can be discussed with your loved one’s care provider. It may be difficult to deal with the vast changes so quickly but it’s important not to take them personally. This is a time when it’s most important to be understanding and know that the neurological changes of Alzheimer’s are the culprits at hand. Not sure if these changes are just the result of growing older? It’s best to play it safe by writing down all that you notice so you can receive a full evaluation from their care provider.
Taking Note and Taking Charge
It’s incredibly important not to ignore any of the symptoms listed above, as even those that are mild could be signs of Alzheimer’s. With this disease early intervention is incredibly important, so speak with a care provider right away. They will be able to give you more in-depth information on the steps that you need to take next.
