Choosing the Best Aloe-Vera Gel
Because some preservatives are necessary, there is really no such thing as 100-percent pure aloe-vera gel. However, dermatologists agree that the higher the actual concentration of aloe-vera extract the better it will work. Board-certified dermatologist Gary Goldenberg, MD, in New York, says pure, fresh aloe-vera with no additives is the best. Gordon agrees, saying that if the aloe-vera percent is too low it typically means the preparation has been adulterated with other ingredients. Virtually all of these extra additives, like fragrances, thickeners, coloring and preservatives, do nothing to enhance the gel and will usually make it less effective.
