8. Increased Cholesterol

A keto diet has been found to help with cholesterol, although in a way that might not make sense right away. A low carb diet can actually slightly elevate your cholesterol (due to an increase in good cholesterol-HDL), which is a good thing. It can also provide two other benefits: lowering triglycerides and bad cholesterol (LDL) particles.

Although rare, this increase in some can be significant (although luckily only for a percentage or two of people) this can cause cholesterol levels to be raised to dangerous levels. This is another reason why it is so important to consult your doctor before you start the keto diet and while you are on it. It is also possible that your doctor will suggest you getting of the keto diet and trying a more liberal version. One solution is to increase the amounts of unsaturated fats, like olive oil and avocados that you consume.
