Frequent Infections

Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the following: sweating or chills, skin rash, pain, tenderness, redness or swelling, wound or cut that won’t heal, red, warm or draining sore, sore throat, scratchy throat or pain when you swallow, nasal congestion, white patches in your mouth or on your tongue, vaginal itching, painful or frequent peeing or constant urge to go, bloody, cloudy or foul smelling urine.

Vaginal infections are common in women with diabetes because a surplus of glucose compromises their immune system. A yeast infection can lead to urinary tract or bladder infections. Pay attention to itching, burning or tenderness. Report concerns to your doctor.

People with diabetes are more susceptible to developing infections, as high blood sugar levels can weaken the immune system. Also, nerve damage and reduced blood flow increase vulnerability to infection.
