Sticking to any type of diet or meal plan can be difficult. The main issue, according to the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, of the low FODMAP diet is that many people tend to go overboard and eliminate too much too soon. For instance, when trying to eliminate lactose from one’s diet, some will avoid all dairy products. However, our source states that, “You can continue to use low-lactose milk products such as aged cheeses and lactose-free yogurt on a low FODMAP diet.”
Another issue that some have when trying to follow a low FODMAP diet is not getting enough fiber, which can diminish gut health. Therefore, it is important to include foods that are high in fiber but low in FODMAPs such as certain fruits and nuts.
