Other Things To Avoid
It should go without saying, but the reality is that people have seemingly tried everything when it comes to trying to treat burns. Things you should definitely never put near a burn include butter, any sort of cooking oil, egg whites (no matter what you have heard), and toothpaste (regardless of flavour). Believe it or not using things such as butter and cooking oils can actual lead to a continuation of the burning of the skin of that area. Although there are certain articles that talk about egg whites being a miracle cure for burns, they can actually cause a bacterial infection that can get into the bloodstream. In more sever cases; using egg whites to treat burns can lead to an allergic reaction. Using toothpaste can cause further irritation and infection since it is not sterile.
