Symptoms
As mentioned earlier, hirsutism is when stiff, dark, and coarse body hair appears in places where women do not commonly grow a lot of hair, such as the face, back, and chest. However, “excessive growth” will depend on variances in culture and ethnicity.
Over time, other symptoms may appear through a process called virilization—the development of male characteristics. The signs of virilization include:
• Male-pattern balding
• Bulky muscle
• Acne
• Deepening voice
• Enlargement of clitoris
• Decreased breast size
