Things In The Living Room

Your Dry, Dead Houseplants

Since you are probably not a necromancer for plants, those wilted, pathetic tendrils of that philodendron you forgot to water are not going to magically return to life. All that potted houseplant is doing is throwing off the Feng Shui of your home.

The Curio or China Cabinet

You probably have a collection of fancy plates and glass. While it once made sense to keep that stuff in a china cabinet, you can repurpose that china. Make it into wall art instead! If it isn’t priceless, you could use the china to make a mosaic. Use old teacups as tiny planters for succulents. There are dozens of ways to use that old china and silverware.

Those Hideous Vases From Flower Arrangements

Surely you kept them because you thought you would need them the next time you received fresh flowers. But then you realized that most flower arrangements come with a vase, and now you have a stockpile. You don’t need dozens of tasteless vases with the same pattern. Choose one or two that are decent and throw away the rest.

Inconsequential, Dust-Collecting Memorabilia

Those old knickknacks, figurines, stacks of CDs and VHS tapes, instruments, comics, baseballs, trading cards and other glimpses into your past are doing you much use now. While it is fine to keep some things that mean something special to you, the rest of it is, frankly, junk. You won’t miss it.
