As persuasive as Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel might be, you should avoid becoming a holiday couch potato. Increasing your sedentary hours during a season where you are consuming more food than normal can be dangerous for diabetics. You need to burn off a large portion of those calories to keep your blood sugar levels balanced.
Diabetics need to aim for around 40-60 minutes of low- to moderate-intensity exercise per day. While this might sound like a lot of time to devote to exercise, it really is not. You can easily break up that time into three 15-minute walks or runs with the dog, attend a yoga or Zumba class, or even do some last minute gift shopping at the mall. Every little bit of activity counts, so get moving!
