Bring Your Own Food
Unless you plan on doing all the hosting this holiday season, you are likely going to be visiting at least one other household for festivities. Parties are a lot of fun, but to a diabetic, it is also stressful. Unless the person hosting the gathering knows you have a medical condition, the offerings at the party might not be healthy for you. After all, most people are unaware of the dietary restrictions for those with diabetes.
To avoid any issues when going out, you can ask the host if you may bring your own dishes to the party. Hosts usually appreciate having extra food to offer guests. For example, you can make roasted vegetables or a plant-based hors d’eouvre or even bring a healthier, reduced sugar dessert. Be sure to think about your own nutritional needs and dietary restrictions when planning the dishes you are going to bring to the party.
You can find plenty of diabetic-friendly recipes on the American Diabetes Association site and in other places around the internet.
