Night Sweats
In addition to sudden hot flashes throughout the day, women may also get frequent night sweats. The reason this symptom is called “night sweats” is because you often wake up in the middle of the night with cold, clammy skin, a racing heart, and your sheets soaked with sweat. All of this happens because of estrogen. The up and down of the hormone confuses the region of the brain that regulates body temperature, the hypothalamus. In the middle of the night, the hypothalamus is often tricked into thinking your body is hotter than it should be, triggering the sweat glands to release excessive sweat.
