Decreased Sex Drive
Alongside vaginal dryness and decreased fertility, some women, according to The North American Menopause Society, may even be turned off from sexual desire. However, sex drive can return post-menopause. During perimenopause, the tissues within the vagina atrophy and become dryer. Arousal becomes harder to achieve. Not every woman experiences this condition, which has been named “female sexual arousal disorder.”
Another reason for decreased sex drive could stem from self-consciousness or the feeling of “no longer being a woman” now that you are entering menopause. If you are concerned about losing your libido, you can talk to your doctor about going on a hormone replacement pill to help. It also helps to remember that you are no less the person you once were, and that menopause can be sexually liberating because you will no longer be able to get pregnant!
