The Causes of Anemia

Chronic Kidney Disease

Anemia often happens in those suffering from advanced kidney disease. Damaged kidneys cannot make enough erythropoietin hormone, which is needed to get bone marrow to create red blood cells. This leads to a deficiency of red blood cells, ending up in anemia.

Eventually, those with kidney problems will often have further impaired kidney function. During this stage, the individual resorts to dialysis or a kidney transplant. Anemia caused by poorly functioning kidneys can also lead to muscle and heart complications. Sometimes, you will need injections of erythropoietin and will need transfusions.
