Choose Lotions and Creams Without Alcohols or Perfumes
Before you start smearing lotion all over the place, take a moment to consider whether the cream you are using is actually the culprit behind your dry skin. Some brands are notorious for pumping up the ingredient list with alcohols and chemicals and fragrances that are unkind to your skin.
Be sure to read labels and know what to watch out for. Some of the most toxic ingredients in skincare products and lotions include propylene glycol (PG), butylene glycol, triethanolamine, isopropyl alcohol, methylparabens (or parabens, general), phenoxyethanol, methylchloroisothiazolinone, and sodium laureth sulfate.
Instead, use things like a mixture of almond oil, shea butter, coconut butter and oil, beeswax, and lemon. You won’t need a lot, but your homemade lotion will help your skin much more than the above mentioned chemicals.
If you are in a pinch and don’t have hand cream, you can also use facial moisturizers, since these products usually have similar ingredients. Another trick? Try the peel of a ripe banana. Rub the inside on your hands or blend some banana with olive oil and use it like lotion. Both have remarkable benefits for your skin.
