Acne

There is a reason so many adolescents get acne—and it’s not all about puberty! Teenagers are constantly stressed, thanks to their changing bodies, school, and other life problems. The stress will sometimes affect the skin, causing acne. This is a result of the same process that affects your hair, causing graying and shedding. Higher levels of androgens make the skin more sensitive. Also, people tend to touch their face when they are stressed, and that can introduce bacteria to the face.

Chronic acne breakouts are not just embarrassing and annoying. The inflammation can causing scarring over time. Be sure to speak to a doctor if it feels like your acne is uncontrollable or is not getting any better. Remember, you don’t want to pop the pimples, since that can actually drive the infection further under your skin. Use oral or topical medications and keep the pores clean with special facial washes or soaps. You also should stay away from cosmetics, moisturizers, or sunscreens, since those can congest the pores and make breakouts even worse.
