Abdominal Tenderness
If you experience abdominal pain, it might be a sign that you are suffering from liver damage. This is especially true if it happens to be in the upper right corner of your abdomen and/or the lower right part of your rib cage. Abdominal pain and tenderness could present with ascites but this is not always the case. When pain in the abdomen caused by liver damage does occur, it usually presents itself as persistent throbbing and/or a stabbing pain.
Although this pain can be relieved temporarily with over the counter pain medication, this relief is not long-lasting. Moreover, some medication can actually cause abdominal pain, especially in the case of long-term overuse. Major culprits are acetaminophen and narcotic-acetaminophen combinations as they can lead to stomach aches, especially when used in combination with alcohol. If you happen to experience abdominal pain, speak to your doctor in order to see if liver damage is the cause.
