Although sometimes beets get a bad rap for being high in sugar, the peculiar color denotes a wonderful health benefit. Beets are quickly becoming popular as staples in a vegetarian or vegan diet, because they are extremely nutritious and have loads of flavor. In fact, they are probably one of the most healthy vegetables you could eat.
Beets contain a glut of antioxidants that reduce inflammation throughout the body and ward off carcinogens. Additionally, beets contain a natural nitrate that boosts circulation to the brain. This heightens mental acuity and enhances athletic performance. If you’re an athlete, consider adding some beet powder to your protein shake for a whole new level of fitness.
