Metatarsalgia

The metatarsals are the thin bones that run along the top of the foot and connect to the toes and ball of the foot. Metatarsalgia is therefore a description of the pain that is felt in this area after prolonged instances of jumping, running, and other activities that load stress upon this region of the foot. As a result of the repetitive stress, the bones swell. While not serious, the pain can be momentarily debilitating and could put a pause on the activity.

One common way of dealing with metatarsalgia is wearing more supportive shoes, shock-absorbing insoles, and using the RICE method to treat immediate pain.
