Morton’s Neuroma

While this condition isn’t very common in the general population, it does tend to affect a large number of people who wear high heels. Neuroma is known as the enlargement or swelling of tissues around the nerves in the toes. If you often wear narrow, tight high heels or other shoes that restrict and compress the foot, you are at risk of developing neuroma in the foot. The pain associated with Morton’s neuroma is caused by the thickening of the nerves, causing them to go numb, sting, or burn, especially in the ball of the foot.

You can easily treat the neuroma by switching to shoes that provide more support and room for the toes to spread out naturally. Avoid restrictive footwear and high heels. If the pain lasts for longer than 2 days after resting, icing, using compression, and elevation, you will need to see a podiatrist.
