4. How It Works
The way to start a low FODMAP diet is to eliminate all of the high FODMAP foods from your diet for a time period of three to eight weeks. Speak with your doctor or dietitian to get their opinion on how long this elimination phase should last. Once you have eliminated these foods, you then start to slowly re-add them to your diet in order to get a better idea of which foods, for you, lead to symptoms like gassiness, bloating, and diarrhea. Again, speak to a professional to have a better idea of how to manage re-adding food during the reintroduction or re-challenge phase of the diet.
