Sjögren’s Syndrome
In addition to the autoimmune condition induced by lupus, patients may also acquire another autoimmune disease called Sjögren’s Syndrome. This disease is characterized by disruption and inflammation on the lacrimal and salivary glands, which correspond to a patient’s tears and saliva. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders have stated that Sjögren’s Syndrome affects more than 4 million people in the United States alone. Women who have lupus may also experience a constantly dry vagina.
