Tingling Sensations
Shingles cause a “signature” rash that is preceded by a tingling sensation manifested as extreme sensitivity, burning, itching, and numbness in the areas where the rash appears. The tingling sensations are believed to be caused by the virus’s destructive action on the nerve roots causing the nerves to respond. From a patient’s perspective, it is impossible to trace the source of the tingling sensation physically because it happens on a cellular level. What’s more; the tingling sensations usually affect one side of the body only.
