Red Blood Cell Destruction

Hemolytic anemia is a disease where the red blood cells in the body are destroyed at a faster rate than the body can regenerate them, in a process called hemolysis. The condition may develop during any stage in life, but those who have liver or kidney disease (or impaired function of these organs) have the highest risk of developing hemolytic anemia.

Other risk for developing hemolytic anemia include drug or chemical exposure, severe burns, autoimmune diseases, tumors, infections, and blood disorders.
