Headaches

COPD is connected to a condition known as hypoxia, which happens when your blood does not contain oxygen. This causes your heart to overwork and tissue functions to slow down. COPD is similarly linked to another condition—hypercapnia—where you retrain too much carbon dioxide.

This is why COPD headaches are a common symptom. Headaches often occur when there is a lack of oxygen moving into the brain paired with an overload of carbon dioxide. You might notice that the headaches are most common in the morning right after waking up, since there is often a buildup of carbon dioxide in the body during sleep hours. Lightheadedness and Lightheadedness may also happen in the morning alongside the headache.
