    Preventing Frostbite

You don’t have to limit your fun outdoors as long as you take the proper precautions to stay healthy in severe weather conditions. If you take notes on how to protect yourself even in the coldest weather, you will be safe enjoying nature’s bliss at any time of year.

The number one thing you can do is to layer, layer, layer! Bundle up with different dry clothing choices to help insulate your body heat. Some of the best clothing choices you should layer in cold weather are made of fabrics that are water-proof, moisture absorbing or quick drying.

The second thing you can do is to periodically leave the cold to come to a sheltered place that is warm so you can allow your blood flow to stay normal. The longer you sit in the cold, the longer you give your appendages time to freeze and blood supply to slow. During the times you go in, check your face, toes, and other body parts for any signs of frostnip.

You can also use heavy lotions to protect your face and the skin on your body if they will be exposed to the low temperatures during harsh weather conditions. This will help to keep you from losing body heat and moisture. In addition, it prevents chapping and wind damage.

Always remember to look out for the weather forecasts in case adverse conditions are being predicted for that day. This is the best way for you to know what to expect so that you can be prepared to dress appropriately or make a rain check until the weather is a bit safer.

Winter is the most magical season filled with fun, love, and quality bonding time. With these tips, you will not only be able to stay safe outdoors but you will help those around you stay healthy as well.
