Bunions

Bunions used to be a joke when talking about older individuals, but it can happen to anyone, at any age. Bunions are bumps on the joint of the big toe. The common misconception about bunions is that shoes cause the condition, but that isn’t the case. Various gaits, genetics, stress, shoes, and foot shapes cause instabilities within the foot to shift the pressure into the big toe. This results in the formation of a bunion. Dancers are at risk of developing bunions because of the tendency to balance on the ball of the foot improperly.

You can also get bunionettes on the side of pinky toe.

Some bunions result in pain severe enough for surgery. However, most bunions can be treated by exercising and strengthening the feet, wearing roomier, more supportive shoes, and taking pain relieving medication whenever it gets aggravated.
