Amblyopia, Lazy Eye or Strabismus

Risk Factors

Some additional factors that increase the chance of developing lazy eye include:

• Premature birth

• Family history of the condition

• Small weight or size at birth

• Developmental complications or disabilities

Out of all these, a family history of amblyopia is of the greatest importance. Children of parents who had or have lazy eye (or who have relatives affected by the condition) often develop the condition themselves.
