Eye Drops Treatment for Lazy Eye

Should occlusion treatment be ruled out or provide a weak response, eye drops may be prescribed. Atropine eye drops are often used during eye exams to make the eyes blurry to aid with detection of complications, like amblyopia.

When used as treatment, atropine drops are used to dilate the good eye, forcing the weak eye to work harder and build up visual strength. Doctors will often administer the drops during appointments, but parents will need to apply the drops at home. Usually, atropine drops must be used once or twice daily, one to two drops in the stronger eye, for any length of time.
