Xylitol
The name xylitol sounds like something you would expect to be artificial, however, it’s a natural sugar that is derived from fibrous fruits and vegetables, in most cases, from corn husks. Xylitol is a good sugar substitute for diabetics. It is low in calories and won’t cause your blood sugar levels to spike like sugar would.
One thing to watch for with xylitol is, in some people, it can cause upset stomach. In addition, xylitol can be deadly for dogs and other animals, so make sure that you aren’t sharing your snacks! It’s important to keep xylitol away from your pets.
