Both garlic and onion are can increase heartburn, even though garlic specifically is considered to be a super healthy food and is even recommended for aiding in the treatment of stomachaches. Therefore, we would recommend limiting both from your diet in order to see the effects that is has on you. Try and replace these foods often used to boost flavor with herbs like basil and thyme.
13. Salt and Pepper
Although not spicy per se, ground pepper can trigger heartburn and so can salt; however, the reason for this is unclear even though research has found that a high sodium diet is associated with an increase risk of developing heartburn. It could be that those who eat foods higher in salt also eat fatty foods. Either way, we would suggest on watching your intake of both salt and pepper.
