The results of multiple studies have provided some support that following the Keto diet can lead to lower blood pressure; however, that usually is only the case after a prolonged period of time. At the beginning, usually during the first few weeks, an individual on the keto diet usually experiences such a drastic decrease in blood pressure that it can be problematic. Certain symptoms such as dizziness and weakness are not uncommon in individuals who are starting the Keto diet and who have high blood pressure. Moreover, certain medication used to lower blood pressure can actually have an adverse reaction when a person is on the Keto diet. Therefore, although it is highly recommended to seek medical advice for anyone wanting to start the Keto diet, this is especially true for those with high blood pressure and/or taking blood pressure medication. It is also important that if you start the Keto diet under the care of a medical professional that you do not stop following the diet without further consultation.
