Be Safe, Not Sharp
While it is certainly fine to have props that help your child look the part of the pirate, ninja, warrior, or whoever they are dressed up as, you want to keep in mind that props should be just that—toys. Weapons of any sort should have no pointy parts that can hurt someone else, and all swords should be inflatable or soft plastic.
Giving a child something metal means that, if they fall on it, throw it, flail it, or anything else, it could end up hurting them or another child. It is also a good idea of avoid encouraging violent behavior, such as duels with toy swords or staves.
