Understanding Marfan’s Syndrome

Symptom: Heart and Blood

Marfan syndrome can cause life-threatening symptoms when it comes to your heart and blood vessels. For example, the aorta is the largest artery in the body and is responsible for distributing oxygenated blood throughout the body. Marfan syndrome can cause the aorta to become enlarged. An enlarged aorta doesn’t cause any symptoms, but it increases the risk of a potential rupture. A ruptured aorta causes a rapid loss of blood, which can be fatal.

9 out of 10 people who are diagnosed with Marfan syndrome will experience heart and blood vessel problems according to the Marfan Foundation. Anyone who has Marfan syndrome and is experiencing shortness of breath, chest pain, or uncontrolled coughing should seek medical attention right away.
