Consistency is Key
Children love routines and they also love consistency. There is no doubt that they will test their limits, as that is essentially their job. Therefore, it is so important to be consistent. For instance, if you only allow them 30 minutes of screen time each day do not let them have more than that since they will learn that your rules are bendable. By being consistent, they will understand what the rules are and what is expected of them. However, that does not mean that you should never be flexible. Of course, there are certain situations in which the rules should be altered. For instance, if your child is sick but is supposed to take out the garbage, it would be reasonable for you to do it for them.
