Disinfect the Area before Removal
Dr. Mather recommends that you disinfect your body (where the tick is attached to your body) using rubbing alcohol. Ticks latch on the body using a hypostome (a straw-like attachment located near the tick’s mouth). This attachment shouldn’t be split or damaged; otherwise, germs can enter the skin from the split. Alcohol helps to disinfect the area and dissolve the attaching secretions.
