Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis, “Tree Man Syndrome”
Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), more commonly known as treeman syndrome, is one of the diseases on our list that is hereditary. It is a skin disorder that causes those to have it to develop warts that look a lot like the bark of a tree. These wart like lesions can develop in all parts of the body, but are more likely o grow on the hands and feet. One reason that these individuals develop these warts is due to the fact that they are very susceptible to the human papillomaviruses (HPVs) which affect the skin. Although about 80% of the normal population has HPV, it is usually not symptomatic.
Once infected, they can start to develop various scaly macules and papules (which are different types of primary lesions). One risk factor for those with this disease is the fact that it can lead to skin cancer since the skin is more likely to be exposed to the skin. Although the lesions themselves can be treated, they will continue to come back.
