Fatigue
Bronchitis also causes fatigue. The inflammation in the bronchial tubes can cause hypoxia (a condition characterized by low oxygen levels in the tissues). When the body doesn’t get enough amounts of oxygen, fatigue sets in. This symptom can also be linked to inadequate sleep. People who suffer from bronchitis have problems sleeping throughout the night uninterrupted because of excessive coughing. This can cause extreme tiredness during the day.
The tiredness can also be attributed to the body fighting off the viral infection. Research studies have shown that the body consumes a lot of energy when fighting infections. Research studies also show that viral infections interfere with mitochondria, the body’s source of energy at cellular level. This explains why bronchitis sufferers experience extreme fatigue.
