How Can Skin Cancers Be Prevented?
Since 90 percent of all melanomas are caused by exposure to UV rays, the best method for preventing skin cancer is to protect yourself from sun damage. Be sure to cover up and use a broad-spectrum SPF that is anywhere from 30-50, if you plan on being in the sun for awhile. If you know that you have skin that easily burns, you will need a higher degree of SPF. If you are using tanning beds, it is best to stop.
Also, since you cannot cut out every mole on your body, you should simply do routine check-ups of your moles and freckles. Any moles that look like they could become a potential risk should receive the most attention. Note any abnormalities. Look up examples of skin cancers online, so you know what you should be looking for. As soon as a mole worries you, apply the ugly duckling signs or the ABCDE method and seek medical care.
Lack of awareness with skin cancer is your ultimate enemy, so keep your eyes open!
