Exposure to Chemicals May be a Cause
Certain things have also been found to be associated with lupus, such as tobacco smoke, some chemicals, and sunlight. One known trigger is a chemical found in well water called trichloroethylene. Another is silica dust, which is an industrial material. Yet another is chlorinated pesticides. Oddly enough, certain one time hair dyes and hair straighteners have also linked to lupus symptoms; however, the jury is still out on this one.
This is further evidence that lupus can be influenced by certain environmental factors and that lupus is a disease that can go in remission but then seem to come out of nowhere again.
