Raynaud’s Disease
Approximately one out of three individuals with lupus have Raynaud’s Disease (also known as Raynaud’s Phenomenon), which is a cardiovascular condition that causes the blood vessels to contract. The result is restricted blood flow.
This is especially the case in the extremities like the hand and feet. This presents itself as reddish, bluish or purplish in colour. The experience of this condition varies from person to person. While some may experience some pain, others might feel an uncomfortable numbness and/or tingling. It is suggested that those who experience this condition do their best to limit any sudden changes in temperature. Wearing fuzzy socks and warm socks in the winter is also helpful.
