A Telling Rash

One telltale sign of lupus is a specific rash that is not associated with other autoimmune diseases. This rash is a butterfly-shaped rash on the bridge of the nose and on the cheeks that affects about half of those individuals with lupus. This rash can appear seemingly out of nowhere but often occurs after the person has been exposed to sunlight or right before a flare-up of other symptoms.

Another lupus symptom that affects the skin is a non-itchy lesion that can appear on other parts of the body, referred to as acute cutaneous lupus lesions which occur when one’s lupus is active.
