Photosensitivity
An extremely high sensitivity to light is another symptom of lupus. This is usually the case with UV lights, influencing about two-thirds of people with lupus. Therefore, individuals with lupus often experience a flare up soon after being exposed to either artificial UV lights or from the sun.
The level of this sensitivity varies from person to person and can cause the aforementioned butterfly rash. In some cases, the exposure to sunlight can also result in a lupus flare, which can mean a fever, joint pain, and in more extreme cases organ inflammation.
