Abnormal Nails
Having unsightly looking nails is not just a problem for your manicurist. The fingernails are an important indicator of overall health. For example, if you have a horizontal line across your nails, you have a Beau’s line which symbolizes bad nutrition or a recent illness. Nails that curve out into a spoon shape are a condition called koilonychias. This is a sign of anemia due to an iron deficiency. Having nails with a reddish brown tip and pale cuticle can be a sign that something is going wrong in the kidneys.
As you can see, fingernail abnormalities tend to be a sign that you are deficient in vitamins and minerals or that your organs are not working properly. Be sure to bring up any problems with your nails at your visit to the doctor’s office.
