Gradually Losing Height
Most people assume that once they reach their 20s, they are done changing height. However, the reality is that humans actually begin losing height sometimes in old age. Once they are in their 40s, people can lose up to a quarter of an inch in height every decade. This loss in height is due to compression of the spinal disks, and it is caused by osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a condition common in seniors that is characterized by reduced bone density. Seniors with osteoporosis can break their bones even in small falls or accidents because they are so fragile. If you notice you are losing height, you should start trying to prevent further bone density loss now. With enough calcium, vitamin D, and weight bearing exercises, you can keep the bones strong even in old age.
