A Light Ring Around the Iris
It is normal for the iris to get a little lighter with old age, but keep an eye out for any unusual pigment changes. One of the most concerning changes is the development of a white, light blue, or light grey ring around the outside of the iris. The medical term for this is arcus senilis, and the white ring is actually made up from cholesterol deposits.
Those under the age of 40 who get this problem develop it because they have excessively high cholesterol. This fatty substance can build up in the blood vessels where it causes blockages that result in heart attacks and strokes. Fortunately, you can avoid the more severe side effects by keeping your blood cholesterol levels low.
