Big or Colorful Moles
The average person has between 10 to 45 moles on their body, and some people can have hundreds. Moles are a cluster of pigmented cells, and many of them appear in childhood or early adolescence. Most moles are completely benign and remain on your skin for years without problems.
Unfortunately, a mole can also be a sign of melanoma or other skin cancers. The only way to truly tell if a mole is cancerous is to get a biopsy. However, you can tell if a mole looks abnormal by following the ABCD rule. This means that you check the mole’s asymmetry, border, color, and diameter. A normal mole should be symmetrical, have a smooth border, have an even color, and be no larger than a pencil eraser.
