Having a Belly That’s Larger Than Your Hips
Hip to waist ratio is a strong indicator of health. People of all weights tend to fit into the category of pear-shaped people with big hips or apple-shaped people with a big waist. Those who are apple-shaped have a higher risk of developing certain diseases than pear shaped people.
This occurs because those with a larger waist have more visceral fat causing inflammation and pressure around the organs. People who carry fat in their stomach instead of their thighs are more likely to have heart problems, get insulin resistance, or develop type 2 diabetes. It is always a good idea for overweight people to try to lose weight, but staying at a healthy weight is particularly important for apple shaped people.
